I also think that having mages contribute to combat somehow is worthwhile(there are probably nations that don't have to though).īecause there aren't ritual summons that you can use to fend off a rush (barring certain nationals), and you want to research it early, you'll need to use the combat spells in conjuration. There might be some national ones though that are can fend off a rush, or contribute enough to win your first war. I'm fairly sure that there aren't ritual summons that you can use to fend off a rush before conjuration 6 (6 being for access during the rush, I think you might be able to get to 6 with awake researcher, 5 otherwise), without using another school of magic. Looking at the conjuration tree, the best spells in it are the boosting spells, as well as summoning elementals. ![]() It doesn't take too long to kill anything not immune to poison if they actually can hit.Well, my thoughts are that for the school of conjuration, if you research it later, it needs to be very impressive/efficient, and if you research it early, you need it to be worthwhile to fend off rushes. But the spiders just come without you having to spend gem one, and they have been very useful to me.Īnd all those Spider units have 35 Death poison on the fangs. Obviously the mages are kind of messed up with cap only/limited paths/slow to recruit. It may sound kind of dumb, but trust me you wind up with a ton of webs flying around. Eventually I just started putting little squads behind the lines, so they would basically web people instead of running directly into melee. They seem to do their ranged spit attack (4 shots, webs) before they go into combat. It just doesnt' take that long to get a bunch of them. Oh yeah, and the Spider Knights and Spider Riders turn into those Great Spiders when they die. As the game progresses though you wind up recruiting Black Sorcerers more often than the Sorceresses though. The Sorcerers and Black Sorcerers do all the combat magic, forging and site searching better anyway, so they just never leave the capitol. I don't know how other people do it, but I usually wind up with like 20 or something Sorceresses in the capitol collecting spiders. So basically the first year or so I recruit mainly Sorceresses, with maybe two turns devoted to a Black Sorcerer for site searching, and maybe 1 turn recruiting some kind of leader or spy guy to tell me exactly which throne that is. But the Sorceresses are probably your most cost effective lab monkey. I should have said Domsummon?ĭoesn't seem like you get as many as Marverni does pigs. Originally posted by Twogun:i was all excited that machaka could summon spiders en mass for a minute there.Įh, maybe that choice of words doesn't gibe with the common usage. ![]() Even in MP my first move as EA TC is to get to Conj 3 at least for the various elementals, path boosting spells, and demons of heavenly river.ĮA Kailasa is in a similar boat with expensive summons that none-the-less good and the same sort of Mage -> Conj level -> Mage power relation, especially because they can summon very good mages.Įdit: Wow, I just realized you said EA TC and Kailasa in your original post. It's also pretty awesome to field armies that are so fantastical: horse headed soldiers, river demons, spirits, fu dogs, snake women, dexterous swordsmen, wights, and various elementals. A few temp gem items like those from the fire pot, clam of pearls, and water lens make that decision all the more rewarding. While celestial servants are only marginally useful as spell sinks, troll kings are a great way to buff your meager earth magic, and Huli Jing your nature magic.Įssentially you can very safely travel up the the Conj tree as EA TC in SP and feel like you spent your time and research well. ![]() On top of all that, conj makes their mages more powerful via light of the northern star and power of the spheres (especially power of the spheres). Wrath of the ancestors is excellent, and the new and improved Abomination is, IMO, a great choice as well. Every one of their mages can summon something in battle from Conj, be it a spirit or an elemental, and beyond their very good but expensive national summons they can also summon Lamia and wights (given the Master with the Iron Crutch or a rainbow pretender with death). EA TC especially.ĮA TC has a national summon at almost every level of conj, but besides that they can use multiple spells at every level, in battle and out of battle. EA TC or EA Kailasa are the big Conj kahunas in my mind.
